Smart Money Names White Mountains No. 1 Bargain
In its August 2006 issue, Smart Money named the White Mountains of Eastern Arizona as the No. 1 "Bargain Place to Buy a Vacation Home". They utilized EscapeHomes.com, a web site dedicated to vacation homes, to identify markets still offering reasonably priced second homes. "They helped us pinpoint five areas where the living is leisurely, and the prices are cheap", the magazine reported. The White Mountains are "an oasis above the desert", where temperatures are typically 25 - 30 degrees cooler than the valley floors, according to EscapeHomes.com.
In a February 2007 article in a local White Mountain newspaper, Jimmy Jayne, Navojo County Manager, presented upbeat prospects for the region's future. The article indicates that new home construction has not slowed down in Navajo County, while many other parts of the state have seen a near halting of construction and a flattening of the market. And as for the twin towns of Heber-Overgaard, they are experiencing tremendous growth, with 30% to 40% of all Navajo County building permits being issued for that area.
To help the County cope with the growth in the Heber-Overgaard area, they are considering building an administrative complex in town to help reduce travel and workloads for county employees.

Beware Of Arizona Real Estate Scam

Please beware of a Florida based vacation property service company who has been contacting homeowners in our area, offering to purchase their property for the asking price the homeowners establish, on the condition the homeowners send the company $400 in advance for escrow charges (you can imagine what happens to your $400!). The Arizona Department of Real Estate (ADRE) currently has a case pending in regards to this matter.
